It's official!

Today I was able to gather all of the requirements and cash for CNA school! It's official, in some point down the line, I will be a Nurse! Yay me! Now, I'm really not looking forward to changing adult diapers but hope I can get used to it. I'm still excited that I have a more a goal that is becoming reality and that I'm not taking steps to nowhere anymore. Do you have any stories of nursing school or about being a CNA? I would love to hear them because I really don't know what to expect! Wish me luck!

  1. Congratulations! I don't have any advice for you, but after any kind of engineering, you're well trained for your new venture!

  2. I was a CNA before Graham was born. It is hard work, really hard. It is physical and emotional, and there are never enough CNA's, but even with all of that, I still loved my job. I loved it, and I want to do it again. I talk about taking the class again but I haven't found the time. I think you will be great!
I liked to chew gum at work (it helped with the smells), the state test was not nearly as hard as I thought it would be, and be selective when choosing what shift you want to work. I have only ever worked in nursing homes, so it may be different elsewhere, but the morning shift was very, very busy, the evening shift had you working with a lot of CNA's who were really young and in high school, and the NOC shift (which is what I preferred) is tricky cause you get paid more, and sometimes it is nice not to have so many people around but you don't have nearly as much help, and there is less time spent with the residents. (I worked on an Alzheimer's unit though, so there actually were some people up at night there. You do get beat up a lot on an Alzheimer's unit, but you get used to it and learn how to handle it, and it was my favorite place to work) It is harder than I always thought it would be working at night. I would never have been able to do it and then go home and take care of my kids all day too.
I feel like I'm rambling, so I'm gonna leave it at that, but like I said, I think you will be great, and I miss it. Good luck!
